Planning for an upcoming move?

Preparing for a move can be overwhelming, so we’ve assembled a list of things you can do to make your move Less stressful. Among this list are various ways to make Moving date smoother for your Movers and in turn more cost effective for You!

1. Planning & Preparation 

  • Create a Moving Timeline:
    • Determine your moving date and create a realistic timeline for each task.
    • Consider factors like the time of year (avoid peak moving seasons if at all possible) and the distance you're moving.
    • Create a detailed moving inventory list to send out to any potential Moving companies for Quotes.
  • Declutter & Downsize: 
    • Start decluttering early!
    • Consider Having a garage sale generating more cash for your move, selling them online, or even donating them (ask us how we can help with this).
    • The less you have to move, the easier and more cost effective  it will be.
  • Change Your Address:
    • Notify the post office, banks, utility companies, subscriptions (magazines, newspapers), and other relevant entities of your new address.
    • Use online services or contact them directly.

Packing Tips

Gather Packing Supplies:

  • Boxes (Various Sizes) Recommended to be in good condition and uniform in brand to allow for easier stacking and packing, packing tape, bubble wrap, packing paper, mattress bags , markers, labels, and a permanent marker.
  • Consider purchasing specialty boxes for fragile items such as electronics, frames or  glassware.
  • Consider Using Linens as Packing Supplies. While this option isn’t for everyone it can definitely save on supply & moving costs since it also cuts down on the number of boxes. 

Pack Room by Room:

  • Start with the least-used rooms first (guest rooms, storage areas).
  • Pack essentials last (toiletries, chargers, medications, important documents) Consider Transporting these yourself.
  • Label all boxes clearly with their contents and the room they belong to.
  • Place a sticky note or residue free label on furniture pieces to label them as well.
  • Ensure little to no loose items are left in each room to make moving day simpler and more cost effective. 
  • Clothes are always recommended to be packed out of dressers Into boxes or bags. This is optional though movers may have to take them out if making sharp turns or going up or down stairs adding time to your move. 

Protect Fragile Items:

  • Wrap fragile items individually in bubble wrap or packing paper.
  • Use packing peanuts or foam inserts to fill empty spaces in boxes. This also supports the boxes structural stability.
  • TVs, Art & Photo frames should be boxed into designated boxes as well as items such as lamps, air purifiers or fans Etc.

Moving day

Moving Day Tips

  • Prepare Your Home:
    • Clean the house as best as possible to clear walkways and any loose items left.
    • Disconnect appliances (refrigerator, washer, dryer). Ensure that Dryer Prong is going to match that of the new home. (3 prong or 4 prong Connections)
    • Turn off utilities (water, gas, electricity) before the movers arrive.
    • Disassembling Beds, Tables, Desks and any particle board furniture will save on costs during your move as it cuts down time on your load up. 
    • Centralize boxes into one area of the home closest to the access point movers will be using on moving day. (Group By Size)
  • Be Present day of the Move:
    • Work With your mover to help coordinate during the loading and unloading process. (This will be less needed if labeling and packing was done thoroughly.) 
    • Perform final walkthrough as to ensure all items are cleared out.

Settling In

  • Unpack Essentials First:
    • Unpack essential items like bedding, toiletries, and kitchen basics first; This will make your first night in your new home more comfortable.
  • Explore Your New Neighborhood:
    • Find grocery stores, pharmacies, and other essential services.
    • Take a walk around and get acquainted with your new surroundings.
  • Change Locks:
    • Change the locks on all doors and windows for added security.
  • Update Your Records:
    • Update your driver's license, vehicle registration, and insurance information.
